Singers from the Triple C Ensemble last year recorded renditions of We Shall Overcome that will feature in the latest short film by the award-winning Green Leaf Films.

The 24-minute documentary tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher Truter from Bonteheuwel, who was killed by apartheid police in 1976.

Titled “Christopher Truter, A Child of 1976,” the deeply moving film is directed by acclaimed cultural activist, performer, writer, and producer Deidré Jantjies. Produced by SAFTA winner Anton Fisher and his daughter Lebogang, the film will premiere at the National Arts Festival this July.

Featured vocalists include Phelo Nodlayiya, Vincent Voegt, Donny Jurgens, Thami Baba, Kay Jaffer, Candice Gurling, Monde Mdingi, Trudy Rushin, Chris Blaauw, and Melanie Voegt – accompanied on guitar by Mansoor Jaffer and recorded by Penny Lane Studios.

The Triple C Ensemble, one of nine projects of the Cape Cultural Collective, continues to uplift artists through powerful platforms and storytelling.

They also provided music for Address Unknown, Green Leaf’s first short film which won the SAFTA for Best Short Film 2021.
