Sounds and movements for solidarity and freedom!
The Joseph Stone Auditorium reverberated with sounds, movements and creative energy at the Unbroken Spirits: Concert for Humanity on Sunday.
The large audience was taken through an amazing journey of solidarity through arts and activism. A range of artists from Hilton Schilder and his band and the Cape Cultural Collective’s Triple C Ensemble to the incredible Betjies from Betjiesfontein Riel dancers and the majestic flamenco performers featured in a production co-directed by Tauriq Jenkins and Megan Choritz. The production included performances, lighting, multi-media images, narration and art. The Habibia Brigade welcomed audiences with beautiful and resounding music outside the main venue.
More than 40 volunteers assisted on the day with ushering, security, food provision, sales of t-shirts and other responsibilities.
The concert was hosted by the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, the CCC, the South African Jews for a Free Palestine, the Salt River Heritage Society, the South African Palestinian Arts and Culture Coalition (SAPPAC), and others. The event was part of the Living Rights Festival.
