Jill Levenberg, who plays Mymoena Samsodien in Suidooster, has joined the Cape Cultural Collective Board. She was elected at the Annual General Meeting of the CCC held on 25 October 2023.
Jill was a founder member of the Rosa choir and sang in the choir for at least a year after its formation in 2012. She has continued to support the work of the CCC and participated in our 11-year anniversary production at the Artscape called Just Our Journey.
Another new Board member is Luvuyo Kakaza. Luvuyo is a journalist with more than 20 years experience. He has worked for various publications, including South, the Mail and Guardian, Sowetan, and City Press. He later joined the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra as PR and Marketing Manager and started Jazz in the Native Yards, a township-based jazz performance space. He is currently a Projects Manager for the Cape Town Music Academy.
Other Board members are Siviwe Minyi, Imam Rashied Omar, Dr Ncebakazi Mnukwana, Brenda Skelenge and Samier Saban, who have all agreed to serve for another term.
The meeting dealt with business matters such as financial and organisational reports. The programme was interspersed with performances by pianist Charles Louw, music duo Razak and Gabieb Johnson, The Rosa Choir as well as poets Gertrude Fester, Iman Omar, Chris Ferndale and Vusumuzi Mpofu.
The CCC also launched a video of the Triple C Ensemble singing Something Inside So Strong.
