Helga Jansen and Chris Ferndale facilitated the last in a series of six-monthly creative writing sessions at the Peace Centre on Saturday. Our sincere appreciation to IFAA and Surplus Books for hosting us.
“Fantastic Session!”
Gill Brand and Heidi Schutter described the Creative Writing and Poetry Session on Saturday, 3rd August as a fantastic and great event.
New Member, New Stories
“A View to Kill at the Bioscope”
Alex Lawrence joined us as a new member. As the Projector Operator for many old theatres in Cape Town during the 1970s and 80s, he has many exciting stories to tell. He wrote a series of funny stories and dangerous liaisons in theatres from District Six to Salt River and Retreat, giving them movie titles such as “A View to Kill.”
Transition of a Family
Trudy shared a new story on the transition of a family from marriage, the birth of a baby, and responsibilities, to partners growing apart and finalizing a divorce. The roles and responsibilities of the woman, her growth, and independence were central to the story.
Diamonds from Our Souls
Genevieve shared a poem on diamonds from the soul coming from a deep dark hole. This was a very interesting metaphor comparing the deep dark diamond mine from Kimberly to finding poetic diamonds in one’s soul.
Planning New Proposals
The group resolved to continue the programme at the Mowbray Library on the first Saturday of each month, as proposed by Russel Dudley. The senior librarian has eagerly agreed to host our group and wants to announce it on their Facebook. We discussed attending upcoming book festivals and writing a mini booklet.
