We came! We sang! We danced! We shared ideas!
CCC Board member Jill Levenberg , sometimes known as Moena Samsodien from Suidooster fame, got a CCC team to connect with about 40 youth in her hometown Kensington at the weekend. She hopes that some of the young people can be drawn into arts projects run by the CCC.
It was a hugely exciting morning. We did some poetry, shared information on what we do and ended with a rendition of Stand By Me that got the youth on their feet, singing along and dancing.
The CCC had ten representatives at the gathering. The local Councilor, Cheslyn Steenberg, and his team, who are integrally involved in these initiatives, were in attendance. Some adults from the area were also there.
We will go back within a month to have a jamming session and talk about how some of the youth can be drawn into CCC activities – be it singing, poetry, dance, hiking or supporting the performing arts.
We are grateful to the community of Kensington for their warm welcome!
